braid me

2010-04-21 @ 22:33:36

An untidy braid at the side of the head must be the hairstyle number one this spring. And so easy to do in a minute! Tease your hair slightly and then twist the braid loose to get an effortless look. At least that's how Ida taught us to do it, she made the hairstyle for our spring/summer '10 lookbook, and we love it!

toms shoes in glittery silver

2010-04-18 @ 21:13:11

Finally the weather let the new silver glitter Toms shoes out of the shoebox. Lovely! Toms shoes are the most comfortable shoes ever! The glitter ones are normal in size so choose the size you usually wear.

And don't forget that for every pair you buy a kid in a poor country get a pair as well. We don't know exactly if the kid also gets a glittery pair but we do hope so!

softa shorts

2010-03-18 @ 20:24:43

"...wear your shorts rolled up at the hem with a slouchy T-shirt" says Vogue.

We say "al'righty!" Slowmotion's Softa Shorts might be the softest shorts on
the market - made of 100% organic cotton and produced in Portugal under fair
conditions. And they are already rolled up when delivered! How perfect.

You find them here!

to do some good

2010-03-15 @ 21:57:38

Sweet friends Ebba von Sydow and Joanna Sundström have started a network
called DO GOOD with a focus on charity. In January Slowmotion took part when
they organized an auction to help raising money for cancer research. Different
companies, including us, contributed with products which generated 53 000
Swedish kronor in the auction. So good! If you want, you could give your gift
to fundraising here - or you could start your own project! Time to do some good!

It's fashionweek in Stockholm but I've been so busy not having the time to
attend any show so far. But tonight I'm going to Berns to see Ida Sjöstedt
and the Lovisa Burfitt show. I know Ida through my friend Cookie and her
collections are always pretty as a fairy tale. And I really look forward to see
the Burfitt show, as I started my career with an internship at Lovisa's :)

The simple intervention of providing a free and healthy lunch,

slomotion save the tigers

2009-09-23 @ 15:17:51

“The fascinated tiger is one of the worlds most hunted animals. Their body parts are used in traditional medicine and their lovely fur is a valuable trophy. Hunting and an increase population is the first reason for the decreasing amount of tigers. Today there are only 3500 wild tigers left. If nothing drastic happens the last tiger may be gone forever”

we at slowmotion have adopted a tiger and we think everyone who has the possibility should help. Pls enter www.wwf.org for more information.

Johan and the orphans

2009-07-21 @ 21:30:23

Johan at the children's home.

Johan Anäng from Gothenburg, Sweden, had a great job
arranging soccer travels to Barcelona. Yet he was not
fully satisfied, and in February this year he went to
stay at a children’s home in a small fishing village,
in Ecuador. Now he volunteers as a guardian of the
orphans, working about four hours a day, 20 meters
from a South American beach.

The house.

How come you wanted to volunteer?

- I wanted to save the world as everybody else! Well,
I actually wanted to go travelling and to do something
meaningful at the same time. So now I volunteer and I
study Spanish - it’s like having a vacation meanwhile
doing something good.

Some of the orphans.

If you don't have the possibility to go volunteering,
you could always help through many of the organizations
working with children's villages around the world. For
instance, check out the Swedish alternative;
SOS Barnbyar.

slowmotion - thanks

2009-06-09 @ 13:09:49

Every year around 7 000 new cases of breast cancer
are diagnosed in Sweden. This means that between
15 and 20 women fall ill every day; about 80 per cent
of them are cured. Breast cancer accounts for around
30 per cent of all cancer in women, and is therefore
the commonest form of cancer among women.

shoes for a better tomorrow

2009-06-01 @ 22:54:46

Keira Knightly, Kristen Stewart, Scarlett Johansson and Sophia Bush
are all walking around in TOMS Shoes. For every pair of shoes they
purchased, TOMS gave one pair to a child in need. And will give, for
every pair of shoes you buy. But why are a pair of shoes so important?
Read these words from
TOMS homepage:

"Most children in developing countries grow up barefoot. Whether at
play, doing chores or just getting around, these children are at risk.

Walking is often the primary mode of transportation in developing
countries. Children can walk for miles to get food, water, shelter
and medical help. Wearing shoes literally enables them to walk
distances that aren't possible barefoot.

Wearing shoes prevents feet from getting cuts and sores on unsafe
roads and from contaminated soil. Not only are these injuries painful,
they also are dangerous when wounds become infected. The leading cause
of disease in developing countries is soil-transmitted parasites which
penetrate the skin through open sores. Wearing shoes can prevent this
and the risk of amputation.

Many times children can't attend school barefoot because shoes are a
required part of their uniform. If they don't have shoes, they don't
go to school. If they don't receive an education, they don't have the
opportunity to realize their potential.

There is one simple solution...SHOES.

Of the planet's six billion people, four billion live in conditions
inconceivable to many. Lets take a step towards a better tomorrow."

TOMS' founder in Sweden

2009-05-22 @ 00:06:05

Blake Mycoskie, the founder of TOMS Shoes, visited Sweden last week.
He told us his simple business concept, that for every pair of TOMS

you purchase, TOMS will give a pair of shoes to a child in need. One
for One. Many times children cannot attend school if they don't have
shoes on their feet, as this is required for their shool uniform. If
they don't have any shoes, they  cannot get an education. Which means
that a pair of shoes might be very important for a child's future.

Buy a pair of TOMS here.

"Beach bleach"

Modeling in Japan requires a pale complexion. They love the fair skin and that's great for me cuz I'm close to transparent by nature.
I don't mind the whole "no tanning" situation for as long as we are in Japan. But as soon as we get back to California, I notice how pale I really am, and how fresh and glowing everyone else looks. For the past years I've panic tanned with the result of major sun burns. But this year I'm determent to take it slow to get a nice golden brown instead of flaky lobster red. We had our first day at the beach this week, and so far so good. Thumbs up for sun screen!

Budokon

2009-05-05 @ 22:15:03

Do you want to get your body and soul in shape - try bodukon. For me this is the perfect exercise. I quote Cameron Shayne.

Budokon is a living art. By that I mean it is the art of living. It is your waking and your sleeping, your walking and your sitting, your living and your dying. I cannot say that it is more special than any other art. In fact, it is not special at all. It is the practitioner who brings all that the art is, all that the art will ever be. Budokon is not about gaining ideas. There is nothing to gain from it. It is simply a way. Our way is the Zen way. We are not a religion or a devotional practice. We do not practice to become enlightened. We practice because we are enlightened. If you are seeking something in order to gain something, this is the wrong practice. Budokon is empty of gaining ideas. If you believe there is something to gain from it, you will always be disappointed by it. This is the first lesson in our art. We must come to it, like all things, with a pure mind, free from attachment and gaining ideas. This is why we suffer. Budokon is freedom from suffering, nothing more.

Something fishy

Me and Mikey took our little girl to the Aquarium in Long Beach today. It's not too far and a perfect half day trip, just to get out of the house. It was not as big as I had expected but very nice. And you know, I love seafood, but to look at fish and "shrimp"...mmmjaaa...so so. But Hanna was excited and that was the whole point. This "Spider crab" caught my attention though. He must have been out clubbing the night before, cuz he still had his "free drink" bracelets on. Thought he looked a bit beat up....

Very nice day though, all in all. We'll be back for sure, since we got season passes. Next time I'll bring a nice bottle of Chardonnay, to go with the fish.

"Oh so my scarf"

2009-04-27 @ 15:21:08

Was a little tired today. My daughter didn't care that mommy and daddy went out with friends last night. She got up at 6.30 am as usual and was ready for a new day.
We had fun last night though, my husband is a huge Lakers fan so we hooked up with some friends over at "ESPN Zone" in Downtown Disney to watch the game. Unfortunately the Lakers got beat by Utah by like 2 points in the last seconds. What bullshit!
Not that I really care though... I was just excited to get out on a date with my better half. Especially since I was wearing my new hot HOT scarf from Slowmotion! Yaaayy! It was a little to warm for being scarfed up but it just looked so good it had to come with me.

Pimped out, Slowmotion style!

"Happy go Sprinkle"

I'm not a big sugar fiend, but there is one thing I can't resist. A Sprinkles cup cake. Lord have mercy on my belly fat, this is so good! Sprinkles first opened in Hollywood I think and then started spreading through out the country and also abroad. My sister lives in Hong Kong and I know she told me they have one there too. We have one 20 minutes from our house and both me and my husband get cravings at times and just have to go get some. There's always a line, but who cares, it's Sprinkles!      So fluffy, so moist and the frosting is to die for! A little piece of cake heaven, sleeping with my taste buds.

a plant to save the planet

2009-04-18 @ 13:33:09

Planting trees is one of the easiest ways to offset

your carbon footprint and become carbon neutral. A
single mature tree can absorb carbon dioxide and
release enough oxygen back into the atmosphere to
support 2 people.

This Grow Me Tree will grow up to become a silver
birch and you'll find it at one of
our favorite eco shops.
Buy to help saving the planet! Though the silver
birch tree can grow to approx 9 meters high, so you
might want to plant it outdoors after a while.

"Dear Cherry"

2009-04-16 @ 09:00:25

Aawww...what a week this has been. My husbands basketball season is over and we just got back home to California. As much as I love Japan, it's always good to come home for a bit and get a break. Sad to say tho' we just missed the cherry blossoms this year. If you ever consider traveling to Tokyo, end of March would be the time to go. When the cherry trees are in full bloom and the weather is pure spring!
There is something magical about it. White and pink blossoms covering the trees, almost making it look like snow when they fall to the ground. Hopefully next year I'll get to have a beer in one of the many parks filled with blooming trees. Japan at it's best.
This is a picture from last year, just outside our supermarket....love!

this is fair fashion

2009-04-07 @ 22:34:29

Go see Slowmotion at the Fair Fashion exhibition at Nordiska Museet in

Stockholm. The exhibition will continue until the 23rd of August and shows

how the fashion industry most often isn’t very fair. Conventionally grown

cotton requires tons of chemicals and the production of the garments is

often made by people without rights in the Far East. But the exhibition

is here to tell us how we can change to the better - by buying fair trade

clothes that are made in organic cotton or other eco-friendly materials,

wash the clothes right, recycle, buy second hand etcetera.

Slowmotion is represented at the exhibition as a brand with eco-friendly

materials and fair trade production.

/ Hanna

PS. We didn't have the imagination ourselves - but aren't the panties

beautiful to wear in your hair :)

It seems like there are no rules when it comes to bike riding here. I'm sure there are though but you can't tell. I ride my bike all the time, some times with Hanna in the back. I try to be as careful as I possibly can but it's still scary sometimes cuz the majority don't seem to give a fuck. Svishhh! Don't use their little ringer when coming up full speed behind you and no one really cares where they ride. Streets, sidewalks. Anything goes, both directions and wrong lanes.
And the bike parkings are always crowded. You're lucky if you can find a spot and even luckier if you can get your bike out without breaking a sweat. Really?! There were NO other place you could put your bike?!!

tokyo in slowmotion

2009-03-14 @ 12:23:24

You know that Japanese kids are the coolest dressed in the
world right?! I see little 4 year old girls walking down
the street sometimes looking so fab I wanna copy their style.

There's a little children's clothing shop down our street
called Lucy's. I pass it almost every day and there is always
something that catches my eye. The owner Ryoko Maeshiro opened
Lucy's three years ago. Her mother had previously run a
Japanese style hamburger restaurant in the space but retired
and Ryoko took over to start her dream. There's a mix of brand
clothing, little nick nacks, shoes, vintage toys and off course
my favorite, Ryoko's own designs. She's self taught and has only
been making clothes for two years. I'm really impressed and I
love her way of mixing and matching. Her ispiration is color
and things that are different and when I asked her how she would
describe her clothes she said "Fun and childish"

I actually ordered a vest from her for my little Hanna.
Awesomely cute and I can't wait to see the finished result
in a couple of weeks. I'll post a picture of it when it's
done for shizzle!

Till next time, stay funky!

When I was out window shopping the other day, these

I was waiting to get that feeling of "Oh they're so
ugly they're cool!"
But that never happened, they're
just so wrong to me. Elf 2009. I just can't see anyone
pulling these ones off with respect, even when it comes
to the fashion forward Japanese. I'd be surprised. What
outfit could possibly benefit from these flamboyant
gnome kicks? I'm very curious though, if you are the
proud/crazy owner of a pair of these clogs, please don't
be scared to let me know how wrong I am and please send me
a picture of what you match these suckers with.
Make me change my mind...

Urban Thongs was created by two sisters
in Sri Lanka with the motto to have fun
while producing flip-flops. Urban thongs
was a natural manifestation of this craving
for expressing the sisters lifestyle and
culture. Growing up in a tropical paradise
they felt that urban dwellers needed to be
reminded of the simple pleasures in life.

We love our Urban Thongs.

tokyo in slowmotion / rice-o-mat

2009-03-05 @ 16:52:33

For the all the years I've lived out here
I've always wondered what this is and
someone finally told me.
It's a rice vending machine ya'll!
You put your money in the slot and then
chose what kind of rice and how much you
want. 2,5 or 10 kg bags. How cool is that!
I tried to think of something that we
Swedes eat as much as Japanese eat rice and
if we would have vending machines for it
what would that be. I don't know...
crisp bread, potato vending machine? Like
"oh hey let me just get a sack of potato's
since we pass the machine"
Hmmm, maybe not.

Food for thought, till next time.

Rhyming Life

how curiosity can solve self-conciousness,
because by imagining the other you’ll get
greater understanding. He also refered to
his other novel How to Cure a Fanatic, as
being fanatic is, according to Amos, the
opposite of being curious.

Got to start reading now!
